My hometown is Longan, which is located in the west of HCM city. The province is not far from HCM center, just about 50 kilometers. Longan is also one of famous exporter of rice in Vietnam.

Like many southern provinces, Longan has a tropical climate characterized by two distinct seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. The former lasts from April to October and because the province is on the bank of the river Mekong, so there is a three floating months in this season. Longan is divided into many small parts by a system of canals and rivers.

The population of Longan is not crowded. Longan has approximately 1.4 million people from two ethnic groups: Kinh and Khmer. Khmer are ethnic minority who are descent of Cambodian immigrant. Because of large area of 4500 square kilometers, so the density of population is not high, about 300 people per square kilometers.

Although Longan is a rich province, but there are still a lot of problems which need to be solved in the future. Firstly, the floating season is the most dangerous season. Many villages and towns are cut off and many people were killed by flood. Next, there are few universities in the province, so a lot of students have to quit studying after they finish high school.
