Ngày nay, thế giới đối đầu rất nhiều thách thức như nạn khủng bố, dịch bệnh, phân biệt chủng tộc, phân hóa giàu nghèo,…Trong đó, nạn phân biệt chủng tộc là vấn đề nan giải đặc biệt là ở các nước phát triển.
Ở mỹ, từ khi Đạo luật dân quyền được cố Tổng thống John Kenedy ban hành cách đây 50 năm với mục tiêu bãi bỏ toàn bộ mọi hành vi phân biệt chủng tộc, chính sách bình đẳng cho mọi chủng tộc, cộng đồng người da màu đã có nhiều cơ hội phát triển và vươn lên trong xã hội Mỹ. Người da màu giờ đây đã được hưởng quyền công dân bình đẳng như người da trắng, đó là đi bầu cử.
