Then I became concerned that I was going to be late, so I ran to the bus. The bus ride seemed to stretch on forever. Finally, I arrived at the company

One day, I went home with an arithmetic test paper on which the score “5” in red ink. With trembling hands, I presented the paper to my father. Oh, how fast my heart was beating! On seeing the score, father roared and thundered. First he made me drop to my knees, and then he beat me ferociously until I begged for mercy and promised to do better in future exams.
Never shall I forget the fearful expression on my father’s face while he was raging at me so violently. I’d like to give a solemn assurance that I will never do anything like that in dealing with my child, if I have one.

But after that I envied other boys who could ride their bicycles without the two side wheels. I wanted to be able to ride a normal bicycle. So one day, I asked my father to remove the side wheels.
At first, he hesitated, fearing I might fall and get myself injured. I was his only child. But my mother persuaded and nagged him everyday. Finally, but reluctantly he removed the side wheels for me. Initially, my father hold the seat, I had nothing to worry about. As I started to pedal, the wheels responded beautifully, I was trilled and I kept pedaling for quite a distance. Suddenly, I realized that my father was not beside me. I pressed the brakes and I fell on my side. My father started laughing and came running towards me. He helped me up and asked me to try again, I tried and slowly I gained confidence. But I was only able to move straight. Within a week of continuous practice, I was able to pedal without help. The feeling of achievement was so immense that my heart was filled with pride and joy. In two weeks, I was able to ride my bicycle with the other boys.
I had many falls, but they were worth it. Now I can ride my bicycle well and have no fear at all. I am now eagerly looking forward to the day when I can ride my own motorcycle.

Learning how to ride a bicycle can be exciting as well as painful. But I found it very exciting indeed.

It was my sister who taught me how to ride a bicycle. One day my sister brought her bicycle and told me to sit on it and place my feet on the pedals. Then, she advised me to pedal slowly while she held the bicycle and ran slowly along. The road on which I was learning was smooth and there was almost no traffic.

My sister was kind. She spent several hours trying to teach me how to ride. She did not let go of the bicycle even once. I was indeed very much excited at this opportunity to learn how to ride a bicycle. I thanked my sister for her kindness and patience. On the next day, again, my sister took me to the road.

Now, she told me to try to ride without her help. This was painful, for I fell several times and received some cuts on my hands and legs. My sister, however, told me not to lose heart. Soon I found that I could pedal some distance without falling. My sister then told me that I had learned enough. I now needed some practice only. I was extremely happy to hear this.

Leaving to go to college was my very first time away from home, and it took a lot of adjusting to a new surrounding. I didn't have my mom right by my side anymore and I needed to become more independent on doing things on my own. Adjusting to a new city, community, and school was a challenge because I was used to being in my own city, with my old friends, at my old school. I often got homesick and wanted to go home, but I soon adjusted.
At first when I originally started taking about getting out of the house, and going to school I didn't realize that it would take so much adjusting. I'm used to having my own room at home, but when I went away to college I had to share a room with a total stranger. We are friends but are totally different. I had to get used to her TV being on at night, listening to loud music, and different bedtime schedules. Although we are different, we have become close friends because she is the person that I spend all of my time with.We talk about everything, share our belongings, and help each other out. It is hard to believe that I am so close to a person that was a total stranger less that two months ago. Being away from home has made me more independent, because I have had to do things on my own. When I was home, my mom did everything; from cooking for me to doing my laundry. I had to learn how to cook, clean and for the most part take care of myself. For the first time, I learned how to balance my checkbook and pay my bills. I had acquired personal maturity by being responsible. I met new people from various cultural and personal backgrounds. I found all of this during my first year while living in a dormitory and thereafter living in apartments.
Going to college and living away from home for the first time helped me in terms of the future and it taught me to be independent. It was a living and learning experience to me.
