Chức năng chính thứ hai của giao tiếp là hướng dẫn người khác, thông qua các hình thức giao tiếp, chúng ta có thể dễ dàng hướng dẫn người khác làm bất cứ điều gì mới, mà anh ta/cô ta chưa từng biết đến. Khi hướng dẫn một ai đó, người hướng dẫn không thể giữ im lặng và bắt buộc người khác hiểu mình, người hướng dẫn phải dùng các hình thức giao tiếp để hướng dẫn cho đối phương thông qua các hình thức giao tiếp như nói chuyện mặt đối mặt, gọi điện hoặc gửi thư cho họ. Tại FPT, hằng năm công ty tuyển hàng trăm nhân viên mới, mà nhiều người trong số họ chỉ là tốt nghiệp đại học. Vì vậy, cần phải được chỉ dạy bởi các nhân viên giàu kinh nghiệm của công ty, mục đích là để họ biết công việc của họ sẽ làm những gì. Tính hiệu quả của đào tạo đôi khi phụ thuộc nhiều vào sự giao tiếp của người hướng dẫn.
