Việt Nam duy trì ngân sách cho giáo dục.
Phó thủ tướng kiêm bộ trưởng bộ giáo dục và đào tạo - Nguyễn Thiện Nhân- khẳng định chính phủ VN sẽ không cắt giảm chi tiêu cho giáo dục và y tế.
Tại Hà Nội, phó thủ tướng Nhân cho biết quan điểm trên khi đọc diễn văn khai mạc Hội thảo quốc tế với chủ đề “đổi mới tài chính trong giáo dục: ứng dụng tại châu Á”. Phó thủ tướng nói thêm chính phủ sẽ dành ¼ ngân sách nhà nước cho giáo dục và đào tạo. Hướng tới mục đích cho tất cả trẻ em đều có cơ hội đến trường, chính phủ sẽ ưu tiên đầu tư cơ sở hạ tầng, cung cấp 75% ngân sách cho các lớp học, trường học, và chương trình tín dụng cho học sinh nghèo.
Tuy nhiên cũng giống như các nước trên thế giới, VN cũng đang đối mặt với việc thiếu vốn dành cho giáo dục, đặc biệt trong suy thoái kinh tế. Một đại biểu tại buổi hội thảo-giáo sư Ka Ho Mok- đại học Hong kong- cho biết viện trợ nước ngoài cho giáo dục tại các nước châu Á đang phát triển sẽ giảm đi. Theo một nghiên cứu gần đây cho thấy ngày càng nhiều gia đình buộc phải cho con em họ nghỉ học và tham gia vào lực lượng lao động bất hợp pháp. Tại hội thảo, nhiều chuyên gia giáo dục quốc tế và các nhà hoạch định chính sách trong khu vực thảo luận cách thức tài trợ cho các vùng thiếu thốn cho giáo dục tại các nước châu Á.
