Ẩn mình trong thế giới đại dương rộng lớn, hơn 300 loài bạch tuộc được các nhà khoa học khám phá . Bạch tuộc thuộc bộ Octopoda, có cấu tạo cơ thể thân mềm gần giống với loài mực ống. Hai tim bơm máu cho mang, còn một tim sẽ bơm máu đi toàn bộ cơ thể .Máu của chúng có màu xanh nhạt.Thị lực của bạch tuộc rất tốt nhưng tiếc thay chúng lại bị điếc . Trong tất cả các loài sinh vật biển, bạch tuộc được xếp loại là loài động vật thông minh nhất. Hệ thần kinh của chúng hoạt động khá phức tạp, hơn 2/3 nơron nằm trong những dây thần kinh ở các tua . Vòng đời của bạch tuộc rất ngắn, thông thường khoảng tầm 2 năm, nhưng có loài chỉ sống được 6 tháng. Duy nhất chỉ có bạch tuộc khổng lồ ở Thái Bình Dương có thể kéo dài tuổi thọ đến 5 năm nếu như sống trong môi trường lý tưởng . Bạch tuộc là loài động vật săn đêm, thức ăn ưa thích của chúng là cua, nhuyễn thể và tôm càng . Bạch tuộc cái có thể đẻ tới 150.000 trứng trong hai tuần. Con cái sẽ không kiếm mồi mà chỉ tập trung vào việc bảo vệ trứng của mình. Điều đó khiến những con bạch tuộc con sau khi sinh ra sẽ mất mẹ bởi mẹ chúng bị chết vì thiếu dưỡng chất và đói trong một thời gian dài.
