- Đối tượng nghiên cứu của luận án là phong trào chấn hưng Phật giáo ở miền Trung Việt Nam (1932 - 1951).
- Phạm vi nghiên cứu:
+ Về không gian: Luận án giới hạn ở miền Trung, bao gồm các tỉnh từ Thanh Hoá đến Bình Thuận. Trong đó, luận án chú ý đến các địa phương có thể được xem là trọng tâm của phong trào như: Huế, Đà Nẵng...
+ Về thời gian: Giới hạn từ năm 1932 với sự kiện thành lập Hội Nghiên cứu và Thực hành giáo lí Phật giáo (năm 1938, Hội đổi tên thành Hội An Nam Phật học) đến sự kiện thành lập Tổng hội Phật giáo Việt Nam vào năm 1951.
