Đây là di sản thế giới hỗn hợp đầu tiên của Việt Nam được UNESCO công nhận. Với diện tích 6.172 ha nằm ở khu vực ranh giới giữa huyện Hoa Lư với các huyện Gia Viễn, Nho Quan, thị xã Tam Điệp và thành phố Ninh Bình, quần thể danh thắng Tràng An bao gồm các khu vực liền kề nhau là di tích cố đô Hoa Lư, quần thể hang động Tràng An, khu danh thắng Tam Cốc - Bích Động và rừng nguyên sinh đặc dụng Hoa Lư.

Đến Tràng An, du khách sẽ không khỏi ngỡ ngàng khi hiện ra trước mắt là bức tranh thiên nhiên sơn thủy hữu tình với hệ thống núi đá vôi và hang động tự nhiên đa dạng. Được ví như “Hạ Long trên cạn”, quần thể danh thắng Tràng An hấp dẫn bởi hệ thống động xuyên thủy nối liền các thung ngập nước như một trận đồ bát quái vừa kỳ ảo vừa biến hóa khôn lường.
