Thực tập (practicum) Công tác xã hội (CTXH) với gia đình và trẻ em trong các trường Đại học có đào tạo CTXH tại Việt Nam còn nhiều bất cập khi hầu hết các chương trình thực tập chỉ tập trung vào 3 lĩnh vực chính trong CTXH như CTXH cá nhân, CTXH nhóm, và phát triển cộng đồng. Trước nhu cầu cấp bách của gia đình với nhiều thách thức cùng những biến đổi của xã hội hiện nay, thực tập môn CTXH gia đình và trẻ em cần được quan tâm đúng mức để tạo điều kiện tăng năng lực cho sinh viên có khả năng hành nghề CTXH một cách chuyên nghiệp hơn. Thực hành trong CTXH nói chung và CTXH với gia đình và trẻ em nói riêng là một trong những hoạt động thiết yếu sau khi các em được đào tạo về lý thuyết trên lớp học - là điều kiện liên quan đến chất lượng đào tạo sinh viên có thể trở thành nhân viên xã hội (NVXH) chuyên nghiệp khi ra trường. Tuy nhiên để thực hiện tốt hoạt động này, trước hết sinh viên được đào tạo về lý thuyết trọng tâm của CTXH, kế đến sinh viên cần phải được thực tập nơi có chất lượng, và sinh viên được hướng dẫn bởi kiểm huấn viên được đào tạo và có kinh nghiệm trong lĩnh vực CTXH và kiểm huấn. Bài viết giới thiệu đến khía cạnh thực hành CTXH trong gia đình và trẻ em trong mô hình cung cấp dịch vụ xã hội với trẻ em bị ảnh hưởng bởi HIV/AIDS (TEBAHHA) tại địa bàn thành phố Hồ Chí Minh, qua đó đề xuất một vài ý tưởng trong việc thiết kế thực hành CTXH với gia đình và trẻ em với các trường Đại học có đào tạo CTXH hiện nay.
