Trong cuộc đấu tranh vì chủ nghĩa xã hội, có một vấn đề mà trước đây và hiện nay bao giờ cũng là một vấn đề cấp thiết và quan trọng, đó là: giai cấp công nhân ở nước này hoặc nước khác có thể và cần phải sử dụng những con đường cách mạng nào, những hình thức đấu tranh cách mạng như thế nào để giành chính quyền?
Trong thời kỳ phát triển trước độc quyền của chủ nghĩa tư bản, K.Marx và F. Engels đã cho rằng: “việc giai cấp vô sản giành chính quyền bằng con đường đấu tranh vũ trang là có nhiều khả năng thực hiện được hơn cả” . K.Marx và F.Engels cũng đã từng nêu một luận điểm nổi tiếng: “Bạo lực là bà đỡ cho mọi xã hội cũ đang thai nghén một xã hội mới” .
