- Phẫu thuật thẩm mỹ ngực thường được tiến hành dưới gây tê tại chỗ, đôi khi dưới gây mê toàn thân nhẹ.

- Phẫu thuật thu nhỏ quầng vú được thực hiện bằng cách lấy bỏ một phần da nhiễm sắc tố ở phần ngoài hoặc phần trong của quầng vú, có thể bằng một đường rạch ở xung quanh bờ ngoài của quầng vú và một đường rạch vòng tròn nhỏ hơn với việc lấy bỏ phần da thừa ở giữa giống như hình cái bánh rán (dough-nut), hoặc bởi một đường rạch xung quanh núm vú.

- Sẹo thu được ở xung quanh bờ ngoài của quầng vú mới và rất khó nhận thấy
