ình hình kinh tế - xã hội tỉnh Quảng Nam năm 2008 gặp nhiều khó khăn như thiên tai, dịch bệnh, giá cả lạm phát tăng cao, ảnh hưởng của khủng hoảng kinh tế toàn cầu đến sản xuất và đời sống. Mặc dù đã thực hiện nhiều giải pháp nhằm tháo gở khó khăn, thúc đẩy phát triển kinh tế - xã hội nhưng tốc độ tăng trưởng kinh tế vẫn chậm so với năm 2007.

Tốc độ tăng trưởng GDP năm 2008 đạt 12,7%, thấp hơn 2007 (14,42%). Đóng góp vào tăng trưởng chung của nền kinh tế năm nay khu vực công nghiệp xây dựng đóng góp 6,57%/12,7%, khu vực dịch vụ: 5,9%/12,7%. Nhờ thực hiện các giải pháp kích cầu, chống lạm phát của Chính phủ, nền kinh tế vẫn bảo đảm mức độ tăng trưởng ổn định và đồng đều giữa các khu vực và ngành kinh tế .
