Theo Hiệp hội lương thực Việt Nam, trong những ngày đầu năm 2010, các doanh nghiệp xuất khẩu gạo Việt Nam đã có được nhiều hợp đồng xuất khẩu gạo lớn với tổng số 2,38 triệu tấn. Trong đó, khoảng 1 triệu tấn gạo sẽ được xuất vào thị trường Philippines. Bên cạnh đó, điều đáng mừng là giá xuất khẩu gạo của các hợp đồng đã ký khá cao hơn so với năm 2008. VFA cho biết thêm, ngay trong quý 1-2010, Việt Nam sẽ phải giao khoảng 1,47 triệu tấn gạo.
Mặc dù trong năm 2009, Việt Nam đã xuất khẩu được 5,95 triệu tấn gạo. Năm 2010, cơ hội cho xuất khẩu gạo của Việt Nam còn nhiều hơn vì nhu cầu của thế giới gia tăng, mức giá xuất khẩu cũng sẽ tăng cao hơn nữa.
