Dịch vụ logistics tại Việt Nam còn non trẻ nhưng từ khi đổi mới , mở của thị trường đã phát triển nhanh chóng trong thời gian vừa qua, từ cơ sở hạ tầng (hệ thống cảng biển, năng lực giao thông thủy, bộ, hàng không...) đến qui định pháp luật về logistics... đã tạo điều kiện cho dịch vụ logistics phát triển trong từng giai đoạn hội nhập khu vực và kinh tế thế giới . Các doanh nghiệp kinh doanh dịch vụ logistics cũng đã phát triển cả về số lượng và uy tín trên thị trường.
Theo số liệu thống kê chưa đầy đủ, hiện nay đã có trên 1.000 doanh nghiệp hoạt động dịch vụ logistics tại Việt Nam.
Có những công ty hoạt động dịch vụ logistics của Việt Nam có thể cạnh tranh chất lượng công việc và uy tín với các công ty nước ngoài. Các đối tác lớn thường xuyên sử dụng dịch vụ logistics của các công ty Việt Nam (xuất nhập khẩu, Nông sản , nhà sản xuất linh kiện , cung ứng, gửi hàng, đại lý ký gởi , ủy thác ...) hiện đã chấp nhận cách làm càng ngày tiến bộ của các Công ty dịch vụ logistics Việt Nam.
Các dịch vụ khác có liên quan được hỗ trợ làm tăng giá trị cho chuỗi giá trị dịch vụ được cung ứng và đáp ứng đầy đủ cho thị trường, chẳng hạn : bảo hiểm hàng hóa, thanh toán, giao hàng tận nhà , dịch vụ điện tử trong khai quan, báo cáo lược khai hàng hóa điện tử (E-manifest); hay ứng dụng dịch vụ E-Freight trong tương lai.
Với vị trí địa lý được thiên nhiên ưu đãi , đã khai thác và đưa vào sử dụng hơn 30 cảng biển quốc tế , tổng sản lượng hàng hóa đã thông qua các cảng biển trong năm 2015 ước đạt 427,3 triệu tấn tăng 14,6% so với năm 2014 , trong đó container đạt 12 triệu TEUs tăng 15,5% so với năm 2014 . Ước năm 2016 tổng sản lượng hàng hóa thông qua các cảng biển đạt 470 triệu tấn ( tăng 10% so với năm 2015 ). Đội tàu biển Việt Nam năm 2015 với 1.849 tàu , tàu container 64 chiếc ; với trên 43 hãng hàng không quốc tế và 5 hãng hàng không nội địa hoạt động tại Việt Nam, sản lượng khai thác hàng hóa hàng không tăng trưởng trung bình 10%/năm.
