I/ Các loại hình đào tạo trong hệ thống giáo dục bậc cao Italia
Dưới sự chỉ đạo của hệ thống GD bậc cao, những khoá học ở các trường tập trung vào 5 lĩnh vực đào tạo chính là: y tế, khoa học kỹ thuật, nhân văn, pháp luật, chính trị, khoa học xã hội, kinh tế và lĩnh vực xây dựng kiến trúc. Tất cả được chia làm 4 loại hình đào tạo chính:
1/ Đào tạo ĐH cấp một (Diploma univer- sitario): Các khoá học ở trường ĐH dạng này mới được đưa vào giảng dậy nhằm thúc đẩy hơn nữa sự hài hoà giữa các trường Italia và các đối tác châu Âu. Tuy nhiên, bằng cấp của loại hình đào tạo này chỉ tương đương với bằng tú tài đạt tiêu chuẩn quốc tế. Sau khi hoàn thành các khoá học ở đây kéo dài từ 2 đến 3 năm, sinh viên chuyển sang việc hoàn thành nghề nghiệp tại các trường kỹ thuật. Các trường kỹ thuật thu nhận cả HS tốt nghiệp trung học phổ thông và người lớn đang đi làm với mục đích đào tạo nghề một cách chuyên sâu, đáp ứng yêu cầu của các ngành sản xuất, cung cấp nguồn nhân lực cho các công ty vừa và nhỏ. Hoàn tất chương trình học, sinh viên được nhận các tín chỉ có giá trị trên toàn quốc. Không phải các khoá học của các trường ĐH này đều dậy những khoá học như trên và vì vậy, nó rất phổ biến và không bắt buộc học viên phải vượt qua kỳ thi đầu vào.
2/ Đào tạo cử nhân nghệ thuật, khoa học (Diploma di Laurea): Nếu các trường ĐH cấp I được coi là mức đầu tiên của hệ ĐH thì Laurea được coi là mức thứ hai, đồng thời là giáo dục ĐH cơ bản trong hệ thống GD bậc cao mà là một SV phải dành ra từ 4-6 năm để hoàn thành. Chương trình học ở đây khá linh hoạt, sinh viên có thể đề xuẩt ra chương trình học của riêng mình theo sự đồng ý của nhà trường, nhưng yêu cầu tối thiểu của khóa học phải đáp ứng tiêu chuẩn nhà nước đề ra. Sinh viên chỉ có thể tốt nghiệp sau khi qua một số kỳ thi và bảo vệ thành công luận văn của mình. Học sinh sau khi tốt nghiệp phổ thông có thể lựa chọn một trong hai hình thức đào tạo trên.
3/ Đào tào tiến sĩ (Dottorato di Recerca): Đây được coi là cấp 3 của hệ thống đào tạo giáo dục bậc cao. Các khóa học tại đây được thiết kế nhằm mở rộng sự hiểu biết cho người học về phương pháp luận nghiên cứu khoa học. Phải mất đến 3 đến 4 năm cùng với việc hoàn thành báo cáo hàng năm, nghiên cứu mở rộng và làm luận văn, sau đó học viên mới có thể lấy bằng tiến sĩ . Chỉ tiêu đào tạo tiến sĩ không giới hạn ở người bản địa mà dành cho tất cả những ai đã hoàn thành bậc học Laurea hoặc bằng tương đương ở các nước châu Âu khác.
