Hiện tượng “cộng hưởng Plasmon bề mặt” được giải thích là : điện trường của sóng điện từ tác động lên các electron tự do trên bề mặt hạt nano, làm electron bị dồn về một phía, gây ra sự phân cực(hình 13). Sau đó, dưới tác dụng của lực phục hồi Coulombic các electron sẽ trở lại vị trí ban đầu.
