UN là tổ chức để bảo vệ hoà bình, với mục đích nhân đạo, giúp đỡ và bảo vệ quyền con người. vì vậy, nếu có một hoạt động kinh tế nào ảnh hưởng, xâm phạm đến quyền con người, UN sẽ can thiệp. UN có rất nhiều các tổ chức trực thuộc như FAO, WHO, WIPO…
Vì vậy các nước khi tham gia các hoạt động kinh tế cần phải cân nhắc xem có ảnh hưởng đến quyền con người không
Ví dụ: nước A xuất khẩu thuốc lá sang nước B, nước B lại cho rằng thuốc lá có thể gây hại cho sức khoẻ của người dân nước mình. Lúc này các nước cần phải tham khảo WHO.
