Bệnh viện Nhi Đồng 1 là một trong những bệnh viện tuyến đầu nên số lượng bệnh nhi được điều trị và chăm sóc tại đây là rất lớn. Theo thống kê, mỗi ngày bệnh viện tiếp nhận hơn 7000 bệnh nhi đến khám và điều trị[3]. Thực trạng này đòi hỏi bệnh viện phải không ngừng phát triển và nâng cao chất lượng các dịch vụ điều trị, chăm sóc cho người bệnh. Bên cạnh đó, đối tượng phục vụ của bệnh viện này là trẻ em, đây là một đối tượng đặc biệt và rất dễ bị tổn thương do đó càng phải chú trọng đến vấn đề an toàn cho trẻ khi đến điều trị tại đây. Giải pháp tốt nhất và hiệu quả nhất cho yêu cầu này đó là nâng cao chất lượng chăm sóc dựa trên việc ứng dụng các bằng chứng có giá trị vào trong thực hành điều dưỡng.
