Ngày 24 tháng 9 năm 1992, Thủ tướng Chính phủ ban hành Quyết định 355-CT công nhận thành phố Huế là đô thị loại 2.
_Ngày 24 tháng 8 năm 2005, Chính phủ Việt Nam ban hành quyết định số 209/2005/QĐ-TTG, theo đó, thành phố Huế được nâng từ đô thị loại 2 lên đô thị loại 1 nhưng không trực thuộc trung ương mà trực thuộc tỉnh Thừa Thiên Huế.
_Ngày 30 tháng 8 năm 2007, Thủ tướng Chính phủ đã ban hành Quyết định số 143/2007/QĐ-TTg phê duyệt đề án xây dựng thành phố Huế thành thành phố Festival.

On September 24, 1992, the Prime Minister issued decision 355-CT recognized Hue City municipality is type 2._ Aug. 24, 2005, the Government of Vietnam issued decision No. 212/2005/QD-TTG, accordingly, the city of hue is lifted from the municipality of type 2 up the municipality type 1 but not centrally that the Hue._ On August 30, 2007, the Prime Minister issued decision No. 143/2007/QD-TTg approving the project of building the city of Hue City Festival.
