Vịnh Hạ Long hình thành sau quá trình vận động kiến tạo địa chất diễn ra hàng triệu năm. Tuy nhiên, trong tâm thức của người Việt, với trí tưởng tượng dân gian phong phú, Vịnh Hạ Long ra đời là từ những truyền thuyết. Và chính những huyền thoại ấy càng khiến Hạ Long “lung linh sắc màu” hơn...

Sự ra đời của Vịnh Hạ Long được bao trùm bởi truyền thuyết về đàn rồng được Ngọc Hoàng sai xuống hạ giới giúp người Việt đánh giặc ngoại xâm.
