Về phía hoạt động khai thác dầu đá phiến tại Mỹ, số lượng giàn khoan dầu đã tăng lên mạnh mẽ trong vài tháng trở lại đây. Sau khi giảm mạnh từ 1600 giàn trong năm 2014 xuống chỉ còn 316 giàn vào cuối tháng 5/2016, lượng giàn khoan dầu của Mỹ đã tăng liên tục kể từ đó do các nhà sản xuất dầu đá phiến Mỹ đang trong quá trình hồi phục lại hoạt động sản xuất tại một số điểm khai thác.
