Đối với những tấm khuôn lớn, khối lượng gia công nhiều, người ta dùng HSM trong gia công bán tinh để làm đồng đều lượng vật liệu còn lại sau khi gia công thô bằng những dao có đường kính lớn và chiều sâu cắt dày sau đó gia công tinh để nâng cao chất lượng bề mặt.
