Theo các nhân chứng tại hiện trường, sau một tiếng nổ lớn như bom phát ra từ ngôi nhà nằm trong ngách 64 ngõ Thông Phong, mùi khói như thuốc pháo bốc lên nghi ngút. Sức ép của vụ nổ khiến cho cánh cửa sắt của căn nhà này biến dạng. Tiếng nổ lớn làm rung chuyển đồ đạc khiến nhiều người sống cùng ngách tháo chạy khỏi nhà.

Là nạn nhân bị thương trong vụ nổ tại ngõ Thông Phong, quận Đống Đa, Hà Nội, anh Nguyễn Anh Lâm đang được điều trị tại BV Việt Đức bàng hoàng kể lại giây phút bị sức ép của vụ nổ hất văng. Ngay sau đó, anh Lâm được đưa vào Bệnh viện Tràng An cấp cứu.
