Luận văn đã đưa ra các lý thuyết áp dụng cho nghiên cứu; khái quát được những yếu tố cơ bản nhất về điều kiện tự nhiên, đặc điểm văn hóa - xã hội cũng như lịch sử phát triển của người của người Cơ Lao tại xã Túng Sán, huyện Hàng Su Phì, Hà Giang. Luận văn đã làm rõ các đặc điểm phong tục tập quán và ứng xử truyền thống với tài nguyên thiên nhiên trong hoạt động mưu sinh của người Cơ Lao, gồm: tập quán quản lý, khai thác và bảo vệ rừng; tập quán khai thác và sử dụng tài nguyên đất; tập quán khai thác và bảo vệ nguồn nước. Đồng thời Luận văn cũng đã phân tích, đánh giá nguyên nhân của sự biến đổi và xu hướng biến đổi trong ứng xử với tài nguyên thiên nhiên. Từ đó đã đưa ra một số kiến nghị, giải pháp nhằm phát huy các giá trị và hạn chế các tác động tiêu cực đến môi trường; nhằm bảo tồn và phát huy các giá trị văn hóa trong quá trình phát triển tộc người Cơ Lao hiện nay tại địa bàn nghiên cứu.
