Hanoi, my hometown, is going to celebrate 1000th anniversary in this October. When i get through this topic, i wonder what i can do for my 1000 years-old hometown to change it toward the best one adequate to its position as Vietnam’s capital. One thousand years are neither too short to be born to a city nor too long for it to deal with its all problems as well. My city are continuously developing and still fighting for a better development. If i could change one important thing about my hometown, i would like to give a new face to the traffic system in my city.

In order to meet the development of rapidly increasing population, my city needs a new traffic system to deal with the traffic jam in rush hours. Being a capital, my city is a place in which a lot of companies, universities, and other organizations chose to base their offices on, and it also is a culture, economic and political center of Vietnam. Obviously, it attracts many people coming for learning, settling, and finding jobs. This leads to the overload that the traffic system has to suffer in rush hours. People have to take 2 or 3 hours to get to office because of traffic jam. In addition, the narrow roads which have only one lane in each direction make people find hard to commute in city. With 3 or 4 widespread lanes roads, people might take less time to transport from home to where they want to get. Gradually, they could live further away from city without worrying about spending too much time on the way.

Second, buses and bus stops are an essential apart of transportation system. It could effectively decrease the number of those who drive on road. Unfortunately, buses in my city are sometime reason to make traffic jam because of being too bulky. Beside, old buses emit a lot of smoke which pollute the air. Replacing these current bulky buses by using small and green buses, i think, is solution to deal with these problems. Small buses are easier to run on road with higher speed, even narrow streets, so that it can save time for users. In addition, because of using electric as fuel, they are likely to be the ideal vehicles for transportation in future without any noise and smoke. Small and green buses encourage people to lessen the use of their private transportations and also reduce the traffic jam effectively. As result, my city would become fresher and greener as it was being.

The urbanization and the highly development of population bring about a lot of problem for my city. In order to address these problems, it will take a lot of time. There will be pointless to just say but practice. But, for me, i am likely to change the transportation system in my hometown as i have a chance.
