Vốn đầu tư mạo hiểm đã được sử dụng hiệu quả tại các nước phát triển trên thế giới và là đòn bẩy quan trọng để thúc đẩy tính đổi mới và nâng cao năng lực cạnh tranh cho các DNNVV. Tuy nhiên, tại thị trường Việt Nam, đầu tư mạo hiểm vẫn chưa được phổ biến, số lượng Quỹ ĐTMH tư nhân còn ít. Nguyên nhân chính là do chưa có khung pháp lý và các chính sách ưu đãi (đặc biệt là ưu đãi thuế) cho loại hình đầu tư này
