Lễ hội là một trong những nét văn hóa của dân tộc ta, nó không chỉ là nơi để vui chơi giải trí mà nó còn là để cho nhân dân ta thể hiện mong ước hay nhớ ơn tổ tiên ông bà ta. Từ nhiều đời nay, trong đời sống tinh thần của người Việt Nam, đã luôn hướng tới một điểm tựa của tinh thần văn hoá – đó là lễ hội Đền Hùng và Giỗ Tổ Hùng Vương, được tổ chức vào ngày 10 tháng 3 âm lịch.
Bất cứ những người con Việt Nam nào dù đi đâu về đâu cũng đều nhớ tới những giá trị văn hóa của dân tộc, nhớ tới những lễ hội tôn vinh chiến công, công sức dựng nước của mười tám vị vua Hùng- những người đã xây những nền móng đầu tiên của đất nước Việt Nam chúng ta. Do vậy, năm nào cũng thế, vào ngày mùng mười tháng ba âm lịch, cả nước đều hướng tới Đền Hùng- Phú Thọ. Đây là nơi thờ tụng những vị vua Hùng và là nơi tổ chức lễ hội vào những ngày này. Nhà nước quy định, vào những năm chẵn sẽ được tổ chức theo nghi lễ của quốc gia còn những năm lẻ sẽ do tỉnh Phú Thọ phụ trách. Nhưng dù có ở năm nào đi chăng nữa thì vào những ngày này, mọi người ai cũng muốn được tới nơi đây để thể hiện tấm lòng thành kính của mình dâng lên cho tổ tiên và những người đi trước. Đây là một trong những lễ hội lớn nhất của đất nước chúng ta.
Lễ hội Đền Hùng và giỗ tổ Hùng Vương được tổ chức hằng năm vào ngày mùng mười tháng ba âm lịch. Những ngôi đền thờ các vị vua Hùng nằm trên núi Nghĩa Lĩnh. Lễ hội được bắt đầu cũng từ chính thời đại của vua Hùng Vương trong quá trình dựng nước và giữ nước. Cũng chính bởi những lí do như vậy mà việc chúng ta suy trì lễ hội này và được tổ chức với quy mô lớn qua các năm càng chứng tỏ tấm lòng của nhân dân, những người thuộc thế hệ đi sau vẫn luôn nhớ tới với niềm biết ơn sâu sắc những vị cha ông ta đã hi sinh để bảo vệ cho đất nước.
