Tại việt nam, trách nhiệm giải trình đã được cụ thể hoá tại các văn bản luật và dưới luật, đồng thời đưa vào chương trình hành động cụ thể thông qua chương trình tổng thể cải cách hành chính nhà nước giai đoạn 2001-2010, được coi là một trong những công cụ nhằm phòng, chống tham nhũng trong quản lí ngân sách nhà nước. Bảng xếp hạng chỉ số cảm nhận tham nhũng của các quốc gia năm nay cho thấy thực trạng tham nhũng vẫn phổ biến và tiếp tục tàn phá nhiều xã hội trên thế giới
