Các nguyên nhân gây ô nhiễm môi trường trong quá trình đô thị hoá
• Quy hoạch và đầu tư hạ tầng kỹ thuật đô thị chậm => hệ thống quản lý môi trường đô thị yếu => ô nhiễm môi trường, cân bằng sinh thái bị phá vỡ, cảnh quan thiên nhiên bị biến dạng...
• Quy hoạch đô thị chưa lồng ghép với quy hoạch môi trường => tỷ lệ cây xanh và mặt nước trong đô thị giảm, bề mặt dất thấm nước, thoát nước giảm khan hiếm nước và hạn hán thường xuyên xảy ra.
• Dân số đô thị tăng cùng với mức sống nâng cao làm tăng lượng chất thải từ sinh hoạt và dịch vụ đô thị, đặc biệt là nguồn nước thải và rác thải => tăng nhu cầu khai thác nguồn tài nguyên nước.
• Bùng nổ phương tiện giao thông cơ giới => bụi, khí độc hại và tiếng ồn.
• Rác thải sinh hoạt là vấn đề nhức nhối của tất cả các đô thị.
• Sản xuất công nghiệp, tiểu thủ công nghiệp => ô nhiễm môi trường và gia tăng chất thải nguy hại.
• Dòng di dân từ nông thôn ra thành thị gây sức ép về nhà ở, vê sinh môi trường đô thị cũng như các vấn đề xã hội.
