Trước khi sử dụng cần rửa điện cực bằng nước sau đó ngâm trong naptha. Sau mỗi lần đo cần rửa sạch điện cực bằng naptha trước khi tiếp tục đo.
Sử dụng thế cao để đo dung dịch có nồng độ muối thấp và ngược lại bởi vì ở thế thấp sẽ có nhiều yếu tố gây nhiễu làm cho kết quả đo không chính xác.
Khi lấy mẫu cần lắc đều và mẫu phải được hòa tan hoàn toàn trong dung môi. Nếu còn cặn chưa tan trong mẫu thì kết quả đo sẽ không chính xác vì muối vẫn chưa hòa tan hết.
