Các VPS thông thường được host trên 1 máy chủ vật lý, nên nếu có sự cố xảy ra với máy chủ này thì các VPS đều bị ảnh hưởng.
Còn đối với các VPS cloud, thì các VPS được host trên 1 hệ thống gồm nhiều máy chủ vật lý, nên giả sử 1 VPS đươc được host ở ắt1 trong các máy chủ đó, mà máy chủ đó gặp sự cố, thì VPS đó tự động được chuyển qua host trên 1 máy khác trong hệ thống. Điều này đảm bảo được tính sẵn sàng cho VPS.
