Với số vốn đầu tư ban đầu là 49.8 triệu USD, ngay sau khi được thành lập, TMV đã bắt đầu với việc xây dựng dây chuyền sản xuất lắp ráp với 3 công đoạn chính của quy trình sản xuất một chiếc xe hơi hoàn thiện, đó là dây chuyền Hàn, Sơn và Lắp Ráp. Sau đó, vào tháng 3 năm 2003, TMV đưa Xưởng Dập chi tiết thân vỏ xe vào hoạt động và trở thành nhà sản xuất ô tô đầu tiên ở Việt Nam hoàn chỉnh đầy đủ 4 quy trình sản xuất cơ bản: Dập-Hàn-Sơn-Lắp ráp-Kiểm tra.
Nhờ hoạt động của xưởng Dập năm 2013 và Trung tâm xuất khẩu phụ tùng ô tô năm 2007, cũng như đẩy mạnh hoạt động để nâng cao nội địa hóa tại nhà máy, TMV trở thành nhà sản xuất ô tô có tỷ lệ nội địa hóa cao nhất tại Việt Nam, đạt từ 19% đến 37% tùy theo từng mẫu xe (theo phương pháp tính giá trị của ASEAN). Hiện tại TMV đang lắp ráp 5 mẫu xe tại Việt Nam bao gồm: Camry, Corolla, Vios, Innova và Fortuner. Tất cả các mẫu xe trên đều có tỷ lệ nội địa hóa ở mức cao. Đặc biệt, với những nỗ lực đưa Xưởng Sản Xuất Khung Gầm Xe đầu tiên tại Việt Nam đi vào hoạt động vào tháng 9 năm 2008, tỷ lệ nội địa hóa của Innova đã đạt 37%.

Bên cạnh đó, để thúc đẩy ngành công nghiệp phụ trợ, cùng với việc không ngừng tìm kiếm các nhà cung cấp phụ tùng trong nước, TMV đã nỗ lực mời gọi thành công các công ty cung cấp phụ tùng ô tô thuộc tập đoàn Toyota đầu tư vào Việt Nam như Denso, Toyota Boshoku Hải Phòng, Toyota Gosei Hải Phòng… để phục vụ cho sản xuất trong nước cũng như xuất khẩu phụ tùng ô tô ra toàn cầu.
Tại nhà máy, TMV còn thực hiện sản xuất, chế tạo nhiều linh kiện, phụ tùng khác ngay tại nhà máy TMV như: Khung xe, Ống dầu, Ống xả…Hiện tại, TMV vẫn không ngừng nghiên cứu để đưa thêm nhiều chủng loại chi tiết vào sản xuất, chế tạo tại nhà máy TMV, góp phần nâng cao tỷ lệ nội địa hóa của công ty và góp phần vào sự phát triển chung của ngành công nghiệp ô tô Việt Nam.
Với mong muốn quy tụ và tạo điều kiện thuận lợi cho việc hợp tác với các nhà cung cấp tiềm năng, vào tháng 4 năm 2009, TMV đã mở ra Trung tâm Nội địa hóa ngay tại Trụ sở chính công ty tại Vĩnh Phúc để trưng bày các linh kiện, phụ tùng ô tô có tiềm năng nội địa hóa với nhiều chủng loại vật liệu khác nhau. Trên cơ sở đó, tính trực quan trong việc thiết lập và nội địa hóa sản phẩm sẽ được nâng cao, tạo sự dễ dàng trong việc tính toán và nghiên cứu sản xuất nội địa cho các nhà cung cấp.
Hiện tại, TMV vẫn không ngừng nghiên cứu và tìm kiếm thêm các nhà cung cấp nội địa nhằm nâng cao tỷ lệ nội địa hóa cho sản phẩm của công ty nói riêng và góp phần vào sự phát triển chung của ngành công nghiệp ô tô Việt Nam nói chung.
