Lễ hội Đền Đô diễn ra trong 3 ngày (từ 14 – 16 tháng 3 âm lịch) nhưng chính hội là ngày 16/3 - ngày vua Lý Thái Tổ lên ngôi, có lễ trình thánh, rước kiệu long trọng. Ðám rước với hàng vạn người tham gia từ chùa Kim Ðài đến đền Ðô (khoảng 3 km). Ði đầu đám rước gồm có một đoàn tướng võ, cởi trần, đóng khố, tay cầm truỳ đồng và hàng trăm quân sĩ đi theo.
