Chicago nổi tiếng bởi rất nhiều nhà thờ với nhiều lối kiến trúc đặc biệt. Hoàn toàn có thể coi Chicago là quê hương của những ngôi thánh đường với những tháp chuông rất cao. Có tháp chuông cao đến 180m và chính là ngôi tháp chuông cao nhất thế giới. Những ngôi nhà thờ ở Chicago rất đẹp, nổi tiếng là St Josaphat’s, St Adalbert, và nhất là Mary of the Angels. Nếu tại đây có những nhà thờ xây theo kiểu byzantin như St Nicholas thì cũng không phải khó tìm những nhà thờ kiểu Ucraina hay Iceland.





Ở Chicago còn có nhiều viện bảo tàng. Chúng tôi đã đi thăm viện bảo tàng ở Công viên Jacson. Đây là một trong những viện bảo tàng lớn, nổi tiếng và cũng cổ nhất của nước Mỹ. Hàng năm có hơn hai triệu người đến thăm viện bảo tàng này. Ở đây có chương trình biểu diễn thể hình rất nổi tiếng, đặc biệt thú vị và có ích cho giới người nghiên cứu khoa học và sinh viên y khoa. Giá vào cửa từ 22 USD đến 29 USD, ngay cả ngày thường vẫn có những hàng người lũ lượt mua vé vào xem. Những hình nhân cơ thể có mạch máu căng phồng, những lớp cơ cử động theo âm thanh và những điệu nhạc tạo cho người xem cảm giác đang gặp những người đã chết đang… sống lại, nên chẳng thích hợp cho những ai yếu bóng vía.

Cho dù không lớn như khu Little Saigon ở California nhưng khi đi trên những dãy phố toàn tên Việt Nam, có cảm tưởng như mình đang ở quê nhà. Chưa hết, nghe những bước chân, tiếng nói thân quen của những người đi sắm đồ, tiếng hỏi thăm í ới và cả những bài hát Việt Nam, càng thấy nơi đây rất quen thuộc, rất Việt Nam. Thỉnh thoảng còn hiện ra những xe bán bắp luộc với hành mỡ. Dù là xe đẩy rong nhưng những người bán vẫn phải có giấy phép mới được hành nghề…

Nhìn họ lặng lẽ thả câu, xa xa là những rừng nhà chọc trời cao ngất của Chicago mà nhớ nhà da diết. Trong không gian yên lặng, hoàng hôn buông xuống hồ Michigan. Gió vẫn hun hút thổi đến tê tái lòng…
