Theo lương y Huỳnh Văn Quang, nghệ có tính sát trùng, làm lành sẹo, nhưng không được thoa nghệ khi vết thương hở (chưa lành), mà nên thoa nghệ khi vết thương đã kéo da non (cảm giác ngứa ở vết thương). Rửa sạch củ nghệ tươi, dùng dao sạch cắt lát, áp vào vết thương, không cần giã hay mài.
