Chính phủ trước đó dự kiến xuất khẩu sẽ đạt khoảng 163 tỉ USD trong năm tới, và giá trị thâm hụt sẽ đạt 8 tỉ USD, cao hơn ước tính của Ngân hàng Thế giới 3,3 tỉ USD.
Việt Nam dự kiến sẽ thặng dư thương mại 1,5 tỉ USD trong năm 2014, năm thứ ba liên tiếp thặng dư sau hai thập kỉ bị thâm hụt, với điện thoại di động và hàng dệt may sẽ tiếp tục làm hạn chế suy giảm của nền kinh tế bởi tỉ lệ nợ xấu tăng cao và chi tiêu dùng yếu.
