The first heavy rains in the Central Highlands last week in April brought enough water and significantly improved soil moisture for coffee. However, the first half of the average rainfall in April was lower than the same period last year; and precipitation in April of 2016 and two in 2015 were lower than the average rainfall of the last 10 years. Most water reserves in the reservoirs is only at 30% to 50% over the design capacity. The average relative humidity is lower than 6.4% over the same period of last 5 years.
2015/16 crop year, coffee production in the country increased by 7% compared to the 2014/15 season - when the weather is very dry hate. Crop year 2016/17, the period of flowering and fruiting (from January to the first half of March 2016) having good weather and favorable. Some coffee areas flowering in February and March when the first half of limited rainfall, farmers have used water reserves as well as underground water to irrigate the entire cultivated area. Output estimated 2016/17 crop year fell to 7% over the 2015/16 crop year. Yields can fall further (to 15%) due to drought or storm by the La Nina weather phenomenon caused.
