Lễ khai mạc được bắt đầu vào buổi chiều trên sân vận động Soccer city-thành phố Johannesburg .Đây là một buổi lễ tuyệt vời với âm nhạc đặc sắc và điệu nhảy truyền thống cuả người Nam Phi, Algeria và Ghana. Không khí rất hào hứng với màn trình diễn của gần 1500 người bao gồm các nghệ sĩ, vũ công, diễn viên, tình nguyện viên….
Điều đặc biệt là những đội bóng được đánh giá cao như anh, pháp , ý lại bị loại sớm, còn những đội bóng được đánh giá thấp lại vào vòng trong….
Đêm chung kết diễn ra rất kịch tính với hai đội bóng TBN và HLan……………..cầu thủ của hà lan đã có pha va chạm nguy hiểm với cầu thủ tây ban nha. Nhưng TBN đã vượt qua HL để giành chức vô địch .
Lễ bế mạc điễn ra đặc sắc và rực rỡ, buổi lễ càng tuyệt vời vì sự góp mặt của tổng thống Nelson Mandela . Ca sĩ shakira cũng tham gia vào buổi lễ. buổi lễ tràn ngập màu sắc của ánh đèn lazer và âm thanh vs các ca khúc khác nhau của ca sĩ ….
