Năm 2004, 5giay khởi đầu là một diễn đàn tự phát của một nhóm những cư dân mạng yêu thích công nghệ. Ở đây cũng tồn tại box rao vặt như những diễn đàn khác. Sau hai năm hoạt động, diễn đàn 5giay có được server riêng với 1G ram đáp ứng được trên 1000 lượt truy cập trong 15 phút .Nhưng đến tháng 2 năm 2008, 5giay phải cần đến một server với 2 cpu Quadcore và 8G ram để phục vụ nhu cầu mua bán ngày càng tăng.

Đồng thời cuối năm 2007, để phục vụ nhu cầu của các khách hàng ngày càng tốt hơn các admin của 5giay đã quyết định kết hợp cùng công ty Truyền Thông Số IGO trong việt duy trì và phát triển website. Hiện nay, 5giay.vn là một trong năm website thương mại điện tử hàng đầu Việt Nam.
