Luận án sử dụng Kinh điển Phật học và một số sách gốc, từ điển Phật học, từ điển bách khoa Việt Nam…; Luận án kế thừa những kết quả nghiên cứu có liên quan của các tác giả đi trước; Tài liệu của Luận án còn bao gồm những tài liệu điền dã (phỏng vấn sâu, các ghi chép quan sát, tham dự); Luận án cũng kế thừa các Báo cáo tổng kết, số liệu thống kê của cấp ủy, chính quyền và các ban ngành đoàn thể ở địa phương được khảo sát.
