Ngành giáo dục Việt Nam còn nhiều hạn chế. Vậy những hạn chế ấy xuất phát từ đâu?
Đầu tiên, chúng ta phải nói đến phương pháp giảng dạy. Nội dung giảng dạy mang nặng tính lí thuyết, thiếu tính thực tiễn, không gắn chặt với thực tế. Thời gian thực hành, nghiên cứu khoa học, nghiên cứu thực tế còn quá ít so với thời gian học lí thuyết. Bên cạnh đó, phương pháp giảng dạy của một số giáo viên còn mang tính chất áp đặt suy nghĩ của học sinh, làm hạn chế khả năng sáng tạo của họ. Tiếp theo là cách học của học sinh, sinh viên Việt Nam.Họ học một cách thụ động, thiếu khả năng tư duy khoa học, thiếu khả năng vận dụng kiến thức đã được học vào thực tế. Bên cạnh đó, chương trình đào tạo còn lỗi thời, chậm cải cách, đổi mới. Việc học còn nặng về lí thuyết, ít thực hành. Nhưng lí thuyết ấy không gắn kết chặt chẽ và không đi sâu vào thực tế. Ngoài ra, học sinh - sinh viên Việt Nam phải tiếp thu quá nhiều kiến thức, học quá nhiều môn nhưng lượng kiến thức có thể áp dụng vào thực tế lại rất ít. Hơn nữa, việc giáo dục tình cảm, đạo đức, các kĩ năng cho học sinh - sinh viên lại chưa được chú trọng. Mặt khác, chất lượng của cơ sở hạ tầng phục vụ cho việc giảng dạy còn thấp kém, chưa được cải thiện và nâng cao. Cuối cùng là nền giáo dục nước ta mắc bệnh thành tích. Các trường học, giáo viên chạy theo thành tích thi đua,không quan tâm đến chất lượng giảng dạy. Việc này đã tạo nên áp lực rất lớn cho học sinh - sinh viên Việt Nam.
