Lượng gạo xuất khẩu 3 tháng đầu năm nay ở mức cao so với bình quân xuất khẩu quý 1 các năm và cao hơn năm 2015 gần 58%, giúp cho việc tiêu thụ lúa gạo của người dân dễ dàng hơn thay vì phải mua tạm trữ.
Hiện nay, do nhu cầu thực hiện các hợp đồng đã ký trước và tác động của hạn haan1, xâm nhập mặn làm giảm diện tích và sản lượng lúc vùng đồng bằng sông Cửu Long, nên giá gạo trong nước tăng mạnh so với diễn biến thị trường thế giới. Cuối tháng 3, giá lúa hạt dài tại ruộng bình quân hơn 5.200 đồng/kg, so với đầu năm 2016 là 4.700 đồng/kg.
Giá lúa gạo tăng mạnh giúp bà con bù đắp phần nào thiệt hại do hạn mặn gây ra, nhưng với không ít DN, nhất là các DN đã ký hợp đồng thương mại khi giá còn thấp, nay để thực hiện hợp đồng với giá khá cao sẽ gặp bất lợi.Hiện giá gạo Việt Nam ở mức cao nhất so với nguồn cung các nước xuất khẩu khu vực châu Á, trong đó cao hơn gạo Thái Lan 10 - 20USD/tấn.
