Hadrian's Wall was built by the Romans to defend their colonies from Britannia tribes of Scotland. It stretches 117km (73 miles) across the North of England from the Irish Sea to the North Sea. The wall was built starting in 122 AD after the visit of the Roman emperor Hadrian, and the majority have been completed within 6 years. Today the stretch of this famous wall still exists. There is a national road along the length of the wall from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway.
