Nghiên cứu đánh giá tình trạng bệnh quanh răng và biểu hiện tổn thương niêm mạc miệng ở 180 bệnh nhân có HIV/AIDS tại trung tâm Y tế Từ Liêm Hà Nôi đã cho thấy. Tình trạng bệnh quanh răng ở bệnh nhân HIV/AIDS khá cao 91,1% trong đó viêm lợi chiếm 72,8%, viêm quanh răng 18,3%. Tỷ lệ bệnh quanh răng tăng dần theo tuổi 16-25 chiếm 66,7%, trên 35 tuổi chiếm 92,2%. Tỷ lệ bệnh viêm quanh răng tăng tỷ lệ nghịch với số lượng tế bào CD4 trong máu ngoại vi: số lương CD4500 chiếm 11,5%. Tỷ lệ tổn thương niêm mạc miệng khá cao trong đó nấm là loại tổn thương gặp nhiều nhất 69,2%, loét ap-tơ tái phát 10%, bạch sản lông 1,7%. Tỷ lệ tổn thương niêm mạc miệng tăng khi tế bào CD4 máu ngoại vi giảm. Tỷ lệ tổn thương niêm mạc miệng giảm khi được điều trị bằng thuốc kháng virus ARV.
