Lần đầu tiên mình đến vùng đất này, miền đất mình mến mộ, yêu thương và tự hào từ ngày còn là cậu bé tiểu học.

Mình lại nhớ đến các em mình gặp ở quán caraoke, quán nhậu hay quán mat – xa nào đó, các em là dân Miền Tây, thật tình trong mắt mình có chút xem thường vì nghĩ là các em lười biếng, không lao động để đi làm cái nghề mua vui tai tiếng. Vậy mà khi đến với Miền Tây mình đau đớn nhận ra một trong những nguyên nhân vì sao các em chấp nhận lấy chồng Hàn Quốc, Đài loan, đi làm đủ việc hạ đẳng khắp các tỉnh thành bởi vì quê các em nghèo quá! Vì nghèo người ta chỉ biết miếng cơm, manh áo… “dân sinh” còn bao thứ bà chằn lo toan thì “dân trí” đã trở thành từ xa xỉ nào ai còn dám bàn đến sự nhân phẩm, thanh cao? Mình đến với thành phố Cần Thơ, nơi xứng đáng là thủ phủ của vựa lúa đồng bằng Sông Cửu long. Phố xá tấp nập, nét thị thành khác xa trời vực với vùng nông thôn lam lũ. Được ăn những đặc sản Miền Tây như có đủ cung bậc ngọt, đắng, chua, cay của vùng đât Phương Nam này.
Nghỉ lại Long Xuyên, đêm ấy mình được nghe, được hát cùng đờn ca tài tử Nam bộ. Giọng cải lương ngọt ngào mang âm hưởng của miền sông nước thật hay, thật dễ thương. Từ nhỏ mình đã từng nghe cải lương qua các vở tuồng trên sân bãi hay xem từ ti vi, lần này được nghe được hát với nghệ sĩ tài tử thích thật!

Đến đây để tận mắt thấy được mặt trái của niềm tự hào về sản lượng xuất khẩu lúa gạo. Ừ để trở thành cường quốc xuất khẩu chúng ta phải đánh đổi cả sự tận diệt thiên nhiên!

Đến An Giang mình được một lần thăm “kinh đô” của Phật giáo Hòa Hảo. Ngôi chùa không lớn, có cái khiêm nhường bình dị như bản chất của người dân Nam bộ không như Thánh thất Cao Đài ở Tây Ninh mà mình từng thăm trước đây. Di ảnh của Giáo chủ phật giáo Huỳnh Phú Sổ người dân nơi đây cung kính phong gọi là Thầy, là Giáo chủ còn trẻ lắm!. Lịch sử của đạo Hòa Hảo so với bề dày đạo Phật còn quá trẻ và chỉ phổ biến ở các tình Miền Tây đặc biệt là An Giang, quê hương Huỳnh Giáo chủ.
