Công ty Vedan tháng 9/2008 đã đổ nước thải ra song Thị Vải và đã bị chính quyền địa phương phát hiện buộc phải bồi thường thiệt hại. Những thiệt hại cho Vedan gây ra là ô nhiễm nặng khu vực bán kính 10km, ảnh hưởng 2100 ha nuôi trồng thủy hải sản, còn Vũng Tàu thiệt hại 600 ha.
