Mục đích 'buổi sinh hoạt học thuật tháng 12' vừa giúp giảng viên trong khoa cập nhật kiến thức khoa học vừa là cơ hội để giảng viên đóng góp ý kiến để xây dựng thư viện trường ĐH Tôn Đức Thắng sắp tới. Nội dung chuyên đề gồm 3 phần: chức năng cơ bản thư viện hiện đại, các mô hình thư viện hiện đại trên thế giới, giới thiệu sơ bộ thiết kế của thư viện Tôn Đức Thắng sắp tới.
Quan điểm thiết kế của thư viện TDT là mô hình thư viện đầu tiên tại Việt Nam tổ chức thành không gian học tập chung, phòng học 24/24, có canteen, không gian học tập với nhiều phòng chức năng đa dạng.
