Mekong Delta: Exploiting seafood reaching 2.8 million tons (08/10/2014)
According to the Steering Committee of the South West region, fisheries of the Mekong Delta region of nine months reached 2 , 8 million tons, worth 34.5 billion VND. This figure increased by 140,000 tons over the same period last year. Of which 1.8 million tonnes was harvested from aquaculture, and the rest from the fishing activity. Ca Mau, Kien Giang province and reach the highest levels of production, with a total production of 830,000 tons, accounting for nearly 30% of the regional output.

By the end of July 2014, Thailand has overcome a number of countries in the ASEAN region to become the largest importer of fish in Vietnam by domestic demand increases. According to the General Administration of Customs, exports of fish to Thailand in the first 7 months of 2014 reached 27.98 million dollars, up 40% over the same period last year. Although in the first five months, the political change in Thailand have little more impact on economic growth, but catfish imports remains strong.
According to information from the International Trade Centre, 7 months first year, Thailand imported 10,070 tonnes of pangasius fillet and frozen fish, fish fillet which was imported from Vietnam, accounting for 99.8%, or 10,047 tonnes, while frozen fish imported from Jordan.
