Kể từ năm 1989, WEF thường mời Việt Nam tham dự các Hội nghị thường niên tại Davos và các Hội nghị của WEF về Đông Á. Ở các kỳ hội nghị tiếp theo của WEF, Việt Nam đều tham dự ở cấp cao. Sự tham gia của lãnh đạo cấp cao Việt Nam đã gây được ấn tượng mạnh mẽ trong các thành viên của WEF
