Có rất nhiều loại giao tiếp:
* Xem xét trên các hoạt động giao tiếp trong xã hội chúng ta có thể chia làm ba loại:
- Giao tiếp truyền thống là mối quan hệ giữa con người và sự hình thành trong quá trình phát triển xã hội, đó là mối quan hệ giữa ông bà, cha mẹ, trẻ em, người hàng xóm,... và cuối cùng trở thành văn hóa riêng hành vi trong xã hội.
- Giao tiếp chức năng: xuất phát từ các nền văn hóa chuyên nghiệp trong xã hội, ngôn ngữ,... đó là công ước, tiêu chuẩn, phổ biến trong xã hội cho phép mọi người không biết nhau, rất khác nhau, nhưng khi thực hiện xã hội vai trò được sử dụng (ví dụ như thông tin liên lạc giữa ông chủ và nhân viên, người bán và người mua, chánh án và bị cáo...).

Ngày nay, khi nói đến giao tiếp quốc tế, chúng ta thường nghĩ rằng giao tiếp bằng tiếng Anh. Tiếng Anh là ngôn ngữ quốc tế, được dùng rộng rãi cả về số lượng người dùng cũng như các khu vực sử dụng.
